back yard, doggies, clergymen outfit
fun photos taken in a favorite outfit with my family pets odin and norman and an awesome black hat i found in my momma’s closet. i’m wearing a fitted black mini-dress from H&M, black stockings, my old brown standby boots, a bibbed vintage top that buttons at the waist and a crucifix i received for christmas. i’d mention the old dusty hat but it’s quite obviously there so i won’t even say how amazing it is. the old feel of the photos fits this outfit seamlessly. enjoy.

also, i am soo thrilled to be here with family. there is just something about being back from where you started-no matter where that may be, for me, it is always with my family. love love love you mom and dad.

a little something for the eyes
hola! visiting my parents in midland, texas. it is LOVELY here, so with all my beseeching my mom and dad decided to help me with a little photo shoot. i love the texas landscape and the huge big sky so we took a little drive out of town in dad’s ‘71 corvette stingray. dad wore a charcoal and burnt orange pinstripe austin reed suit, mom is wearing a vintage silver striped dress. i was going for a fun mash up of mad men and james bond. enjoy.

sometimes i have no idea what to do with myself so i sit down and try to create something to make me feel better. the other day i was in such a mood and decided to turn my thoughts into felt little owl booties for my sister’s baby. i like how they turned out : )

oh! i am also moving into my very own apartment. it’s downtown with hardwood floors and tall ceilings. i’m making it into a little sewing factory! will take cute pictures soon!
he came into see me while i was working at the diner. he looked soo tired, like a walking dead man, he has been working so hard on his book. i went to help him with the letter press the other night, it was incredible and tedious and backwards! i really hope he posts some photos of the book, it will be undeniably lovely.

fun tuxedo shorts
hi!
i found this really cute 3 piece corduroy suit set with my pal elsie while we were shopping recently and everything was perfect..except the pants, i mean they fit, but they fit like old vintage pants typically do: tiny waist, hugs the hips, bell bottomed. anyhow, i decided to mess with said pants this morning and was pleasantly surprised. i decided to make the ill-fitting pants into a little tap short, with tuxedo stripes (to hide the little room i’m making for myself.) it’s super easy to do, with a little thought : )

i cut the pants to a workable length so that i’m not dealing with extra pant leg.

took out the outside side-seam with a seam ripper.

next, i found a durable pretty fabric for the tuxedo stripe. i didn’t want to deal with reinforcing the fabric so i chose a strong piece of upholstery fabric i had around. i cut it into two 2 inch strips and finished the edges.

then i tacked the tuxedo stripe to the front side-seam and sewed it down.

this next part is sorta hard to explain: i needed just a bit more room for my waist and my hips so i pinned the back part of the pants 1/2 inch from the front part. i simply just tacked it onto the stripe. this lets me have a bit more room on each side without it looking too obvious. once i’d pinned both sides, i basted it, did a quick fitting and sewed it up. as you can see though, you have to be intuitive about it a bit, notice that near the lower part of the pocket the sides are closer together due to the shape of the pants.

i originally wanted to put a small cuff on the bottom of the shorts, but decided not to because i was happy with the shape. i shortened the shorts and put in a quick hem, and !presto! i had some new shorts to wear this evening!
this is sort of a picture of them. i couldn’t do much better since i’m home by myself : ) i’ll make him take some photos of them soon though!

what are some fun alterations you’re working on lately?

little sister, little baby

yesterday i woke up early and drove the 7 hours to dallas, texas where my baby sister is staying. she’s having a baby boy very soon and is resigned to bedrest in the 7th floor of a maternity hospital. it was a suprise, me showing up, and as my parents were setting out goodies for our little thanksgiving dinner i walk in and start jumping up and down; my little sister is so preganant! it’s like a perfact little basketball in her belly! i hadn’t seen her since her first trimester so it was a big suprise to see all of the baby’s ultrasound photos and all of the little things she’s thought of for him. she is definately a litte mother. the photos are from us playing in her room, the lighting was bad but i like the feel of the photos. i am so priveleged to become an auntie!

really short stories
hello everyone, i feel like i’ve been out of commission for quite some time, but in all actuality, i’ve just been working my ass off trying to graduate next month. she and i have several new tricks up our sleeves that will be coming in the very near future, so be sure to be checking back pretty frequently.
one of the things i’ve been working on lately for my alternative process photography class is a handmade photo book. i am using a letterpress to place my type and screenprinting the cover and spine. i am super excited about it. how it came about was by my excessive amount of studying strangers, aka. being a creeper. for this, anytime i was out i would draw these strangers but i would make up these stories of who i think they would be. these strange, brief stories became the basis for my photo project where i would take the story as a starting place for creating a character to photograph. the photos are cyanotypes printed on fabric, which i will posting here within the next couple weeks. she has been pressing me to post something, which is very helpful, because otherwise i probably i wouldn’t be. sometimes i need a little push. anyways….
Do your nails taste as good as my lips? I thought about asking you once as you lied near motionless on your bed, counting the number of stripes on your shirt. Consequently, your black & white mind tries to piece together your intrepid intentions like an antiquicated noir from the French New Wave cinema, alternating between good & evil & friendship & defeat & sometimes they can all be the same thing. Nevertheless, your language limps along like a fractured dog trying to find a home. You whimper in this sorid state, with breath that smells of vodka, begging for more time, more silence, more of anything to get you out of this stale-mate.

Song!
i wrote this song a few months ago and was just now convinced to post it. parts of the second verse were written before i went off to wyoming this summer and while i was there the rest sort of just fell into place. i am by no means a lyricist or musician, my songs are very typically sugary and cutesy, but i just wanted to post some other original work just to take the leap and have it out there : )
he hasn’t really heard this yet, but i’m sure he’ll like it. maybe this will prompt him to post some of his music as well…
here goes, i’m shaking in my boots!

menagearie
hi! here are just a few photos of oldish shoots he and i collaborted on a few months ago. we have taken so many photos that sometimes even really really good shots don’t make the cut but i have kept some of my absolute favorites to show you today.
the first one holds a really dear place in my heart. i am wearing a vintage pink and blue sort of metallic skirt and a nude colored top with strong shoulders. both are thrifted. the watch is broken but has the cutest pearl bangles that goes with absolutely everything! all that aside however, it is the location that makes this shot so special. on my grandparents land they have the most gorgeous natural bridge that overlooks the osage river. i am standing on the boulder that fell to make the natural bridge. it is one of my most favorite spots in the world, green, wet, and alive the woods swallow me whole and the sound of the river below makes me feel wild.

this next one is from the safari photo shoot we did this spring. the dress is homemade, circa (i’m guessing) the 1980’s. at first glance it is very over the top but paired with rust colored boots, and a little paddle boat, i think it turned out very fitting for the look we were going for. to see this dress’ full potential please refer to our safari photo shoot we did in may : )

here is a little something from our lounge shoot, i look back at this shoot and kinda laugh at how horrid and decrepit we both look. for this shoot we were really wanting to capture the idea of a sort of urban grunge.

a total guilty pleasure! this dress i’ve had for eons and break it out whenever it is even remotely appropriate. its a loose fitting backless polyester wonder! paired with the turquoise walls i love the feel of this photo.

front porch+eyes+camera

a passer by.
why this is awesome:
motorcross shin-high boots. so heavy you can hear him walking down the street with mighty clomps, long legged. as he walks he reminds me of
the wizard of ozscarecrow. i would seriously love to own the boots, they were pretty sick in person.baggy jeans+belt+tee. this kid isn’t wanting to impress with tiny skinny, bike kid/sk8board jeans. i love the creases in the knees. and the belt is amazing, i might be reading into things but i think he’s been influened by some generation of skate kids, jnco, skate shoes, all that stuff. i can dig but if i were dressing the kid i’d put him in a ratty plaid flannel, keep the jeans, and belt can stay. i wonder if he likes Nirvana?
gloves+wristbands+the vest. what can i say? i am a sucker for leather. i’ve seen this kid walk by my house before. he’s always wearing a sort of variation of this outfit. when i jumped the fence to catch up with him today i asked him why he loves the vest. he told me he just wears what he likes. he also told me that he’d snagged it from a family member two years ago. i really love the oversized gloves as well. but damn, the lapels on that vest are killer.
suede hat. a fantastically worn out camel colored hat! it seems like it was thrown in the rear windshield of a car and exposed to the sun for about 4 years. it’s that cool. and the overall tone of the hat with the outfit really sort of pulls it together, though in the most unconventional of ways.
i liked doing this outfit synopsis. perhaps i will try this again : )
